by Brianna Crandall — April 11, 2014—In the words of American business sage Warren Buffett, “It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you’d do things differently.” Mindful that loyal, lasting relationships are crucial to business (and personal) success, the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) has published a new white paper filled with particulars on how best to forge and sustain such relationships.

Titled simply Leadership Development: Building Relationships, the publication is the eighth in a series of IREM white papers that focus on various leadership-related competencies critical to real estate management and general business achievement.

The white paper highlights key benefits of relationship building, observes that it is an ongoing process, and addresses several fundamental techniques for connecting, and then building rapport with, others. It also enumerates eight important personality traits that contribute to high-quality, lasting relationships, and concludes with 13 tactics to hone strong, relationship-building skills.

IREM Members can download the IREM white paper Leadership Development: Relationship Building at no cost from the IREM Publications Web site one they are logged in. The price of the publication for nonmembers is $5.99.

To access all eight of the white papers in the series, which are available free to members or as a package at a 20% discount to nonmembers, visit the IREM Leadership Competencies White Papers Web page.
