ISS U.K. wins integrated FM services contract for UBS, “largest” U.K. grounds maintenance contract

by Brianna Crandall — March 2, 2015—Global facilities services provider ISS recently won an integrated facilities management services contract for a major financial services organization, and what the company says is the largest grounds maintenance contract to date in the United Kingdom, for the government’s property and service provider.

UBS AG

ISS U.K. will be responsible for the U.K. integrated facilities management services for the financial services organization UBS AG. From June 1, 2015, ISS will provide a fully integrated facility services management model including technical engineering services, security, cleaning, energy and environmental management, health and safety management, and customer support services.

ISS will work alongside UBS to manage the existing portfolio of FM operations at the company’s existing buildings in the City of London as well as national branch offices. Critically, the contract includes the transition management responsibility into UBS’s prestigious new building called 5 Broadgate, a state-of-the-art, 700,000-square-foot premises to be occupied as of fall 2016.

Wayne Tanner, UBS executive director, head of IFM and Transition, Group Corporate Services, commented, “This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to engage with a best-in-class organization that aligns perfectly with our principles of client focus, excellence and sustainable performance. A proven expertise in high-profile, strategic change management and market-leading FM competency were sought from an innovative organization. Throughout the systematic tender process, ISS consistently demonstrated a superior value proposition and true partnership.”

Next Generation Estates Contracts

The landscaping division of ISS U.K. won a grounds maintenance contract for the Central, South West and South East Regional Prime, Next Generation Estates Contracts that will see the division continue its long-term partnership with prime contractor CarillionAmey.

ISS U.K. will deliver grounds, sports field, airfield, hard surface, hedge and tree maintenance, along with snow and ice clearance, to more than 250 key sites including Sandhurst, Horse Guards, Britannia Naval College, RAF Lyneham and Catterick Garrison.

Together with the existing Housing Prime and Regional Prime Scotland contracts, ISS U.K. is now responsible for delivering grounds maintenance on five Next Generation Estates Contracts for the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO).

ISS will deliver grounds, sports field, airfield, hard surface, hedge and tree maintenance, along with snow and ice clearance, to more than 250 key Defence Estate sites.

The contracts will see the transfer of approximately 500 new employees from the incumbent contractors. Under the new portfolio, ISS U.K. will build on its already strong relationship and further extend its collaboration with CarillionAmey to deliver additional improvements to the quality and efficiencies of the Defence Estate across the U.K., in order to enhance the quality of life for the end user.

Phil Jones, managing director of the Landscaping Division of ISS U.K., commented, “The award of these contracts is a major landmark for both ISS and the grounds maintenance industry as a whole. They are also an opportunity for us to further demonstrate our commitment to the armed forces community. The landscaping division of ISS U.K. is the founder member of the Garden Support Team for Gardening Leave, a charity which helps veterans with mental health issues on the road back to health and civilian life by providing horticultural therapy within walled gardens. Our main focus will be to ensure that we continue to deliver the right culture of continuous improvement, efficiencies, and value for money to CarillionAmey and the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO).”
