by Brianna Crandall — July 3, 2015—In addition to the collaborations and collections and the adaptable workplace furniture previously covered on FMLink, Teknion Corporation showcased its new Variable HybrED seating for educational, corporate and residential environments at NeoCon — said to be the commercial interiors industry’s most important annual event — June 15-17 at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago.

The Variable HybrED chair is a lightweight, mobile, compact, self-contained individual chair/desk. It enables classrooms and training rooms to change from traditional rows of training tables and desking to a more modern, individually controlled, dynamic setting. Designers and users can fully customize their spaces.

“HybrED is the natural evolution of the Variable multi-purpose seating collection that we launched last year,” said Alessandro Piretti. “HybrED is a combination of the Variable plastic shell with a frame specifically conceived for the educational environment. The driving concept was providing the user with maximum comfort — the comfort of easy front and side access to the large storage tray; the comfort of a big, unhanded, rotating tablet and the comfort of the Variable ergonomic shell. Studying can be very hard. It’s better to do it in a comfortable chair!”

Features

Progressive and mobile, HybrED includes a unique cantilevered frame for a dynamic aesthetic, comfort and optimized storage. A key option is the double-articulating arm with a completely unhanded 180° rotating tablet that pivots around a swivel seat for full access/egress, side sitting and classroom participation. The chair features an elegant, patented flexing-back shell, like other models in the Variable multi-purpose seating line.

“The Variable HybrED chair was designed considering the needs of today’s students and teachers,” said Chris Dominik, Director, Product Management — Seating. “Students can fully adjust their space envelope of use to suit their ergonomic needs and personal preferences. The chair creates many possibilities for modern private and public blended layouts when used in combination with the six other Variable seating styles, and Teknion’s Thesis Desking, Training Tables and Mobile Screens.”

Options

An extensive range of design and finish options enables the chair to appeal to progressive educational and traditional corporate customers. Options include five-star base/storage tray base, caster/glide, arms, cup-holder and swivel-tablet in various finishes. Variable modular options include Single-Upholstered Seat, Single-Upholstered Seat and Back, Double-Upholstered Seat and Back, or plastic shell only. The shell is available in 12 colors.

Designed for the rugged needs of educational and training environments, the Variable HybrED chair meets a user weight capacity rating of 300 lbs. and is warranted for 24/7 application. It has been tested to ANSI/BIFMA standards, including X6.1-2012 Educational Seating.

Other NeoCon introductions

In addition to the Variable HybrED seating, Teknion introduced new lounge seating and tables from Teknion Studio including Cover, Cavu, Qui, and Infinito + Massalla, as well as Textured Edge by Suzanne Tick from Teknion Textiles.
