by Ann Withanee — May 25, 2012—Teknion Corporation received a Gold Award in The Best of NeoCon product competition for its LOGIQ, a furniture-integrated plug-load monitoring system developed in partnership with Enmetric Systems, Inc. LOGIQ, which was introduced to the market during NeoCon, held at The Merchandise Mart in June, gives users the ability to monitor and control electrical usage of devices in the office. More, it provides corporations to become more informed and responsible toward their environmental footprint.

LOGIC was demonstrated at Teknion’s permanent showroom at The Merchandise Mart, Chicago, during NeoCon, June 11-13.

“LOGIQ is an innovative system that allows everyone from the facilities manager to the individual user to control and improve their work-related environmental footprint through smart technology management,” says Doug Hietkamp, Teknion Director of Sustain Programs. It shows how much energy is being consumed, what devices are consuming it and when. It also applies rules to control usage based on time or logic.

LOGIQ is centered on the concept that the vast user community—the individual, the facilities manager, the corporation—is empowered with real-time information to measure, analyze, and control energy consumption. It provides a return on investment beyond the corporate footprint. The average LOGIQ-enabled office workstation typically results in annual energy savings of up to 20 percent.

Teknion states that electrical plug loadshare is the fastest growing and least addressed form of energy consumption in commercial buildings, accounting for a significant percentage of a building’s electrical demand. LOGIQ serves a major function in addressing this form of consumption with its plug-load management system. LOGIQ provides more measurement and control to the system, as well as provides another level of feedback. LOGIQ directly integrates with existing Building Management and Energy Management Systems, allowing unprecedented insight into the health and utilization of built environments.

“Other systems do not provide a simple and intuitive system with the capabilities of LOGIQ,” explains Dannion Smith, Teknion Senior Product Manager, Ergonomic Products. He adds that cloud-based data management and an iPad app interface provide a system user interaction that is easily understood and available anywhere. LOGIQ, he emphasizes, is the only system that provides real-time control and data reporting at the individual outlet level. It also provides an interface that encourages both users and facilities managers to interact with the system.

The Best of NeoCon product competition is sponsored by Contract Magazine, Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc., The International Interior Design Association (IIDA), The International Facility Management Association (IFMA) and McMorrow Report.com.
