It now costs an average of $2,752 per year to provide an office-based employee with a place to work, according to the Johnson Controls Spring 2000 Office Costs Index. The index, which makes its national debut in the May 2000 issue of Site Selection magazine, is a snapshot guide to the cost of providing and operating property and facility management service in the United States.
Under a new agreement, Site Selection will be the exclusive publisher of the Office Costs Index on a bi-annual basis; the magazine plans to publish the index regularly in its March and Sptember issues. The partnership between Johnson Controls and Site Selection is designed with the goal of building upon each issue of the Office Costs Index to create a bsuiness performance reference point for the corporate real estate industry. The Office Costs Index provides a benchmarking guide of office costs for key property operations and office services activities. The index explores current performance of the average work environment in terms of cost, delivery standards and quality.
The Johnson Controls Office Costs Index is created with information from the International Performance Management Database (IPM), a technology from Johnson Controls. Designed to track global workplace performance trends, IPM contains measurable, objective date from more than 400 million square feet of Johnson Controls-managed facilities.
