2001 Report highlights BOMA policy positions

BOMA’s 2001 Issues Report highlights BOMA’s advocacy achievements and policy positions, which BOMA members use in their communications with members of Congress as well as state and local officials. The report describes BOMA’s advocacy achievements in 2000, which included defeating telecommunications legislation that would have mandated forced access in buildings; working with the IWCA to create industry-acceptable window cleaning standards; participating in drafting 2000 International Codes for the built environment; and leading a “get it TOGETHER” Coalition which pressed for a joint ICC/NFPA fire code process and is encouraging the creation of one unified set of building-related codes. The report also addresses BOMA’s positions on such issues as electric utility deregulation, capital gains tax cut/elimination, depreciation recapture, Internet taxation, private property rights, brownfields, sprawl, Superfund, and accessibility codes and standards.
