July 19, 2010—7×24 Exchange released on July 15 its industry task force’s Recommendations for Measuring and Reporting Overall Data Center Efficiency. The organization offers a knowledge exchange for those who design, build, use and maintain mission-critical enterprise information infrastructures, with the goal of improving end-to-end data center reliability.
The guidance document contains the purpose, background, and scope of the recommendations; the PUE metric calculation in dedicated data centers: weighting of energy types based on source energy, renewable energy sources, combined heat and power plants, and reused data center energy; and the publishing format and related resources and tools, as well as the next recommended steps.
