May 14, 2003—The American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) and the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) are joining together to create a new technical journal for the occupational and environmental health and safety profession. The first issue of the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene will debut in January 2004; the current ACGIH journal, Applied Occupational and Environmental Hygiene, and the AIHA Journal will cease publication at the end of 2003.
In cooperation with publisher Taylor & Francis, the new journal will work on a “fast-track” schedule where accepted articles are published on the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene Web site as soon as they have been edited. They will then be published in the print edition as space becomes available. This new publication process will enable ACGIH and AIHA members and other Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene readers to have access to peer-reviewed scientific information in the most timely manner possible.
A board comprised of representatives of both associations will administer the journal. A search is currently under way to select an editor-in-chief.
