September 21, 2005—Adesta, LLC, an Omaha, NE based systems integrator, has been awarded a contract to enhance security at the Port of Beaumont in Texas, the nation’s top commercial strategic port for handling military cargo, the company says.
Adesta will design and build an automated video surveillance system that will maximize the effectiveness of the Port’s current system and also allow for future security upgrades.
This is the second phase of security upgrades for the Port of Beaumont’s video surveillance system, Adesta says.
The system installed by Adesta will enhance the automated detection and tracking of intruders within or approaching the Port complex and alert Port Authority Police of intrusion. It will also improve the Port’s ability to detect and monitor threats and promote overall security through the addition of thermal imaging cameras. Existing cameras will also be updated for compatibility with the overall surveillance system. Project completion is scheduled for fall 2005.
The Port of Beaumont has been named one of 19 strategic ports in the country by the Maritime Administration. This distinction is given to ports that can handle military cargo in times of national emergency. Because of this, the Port has been awarded more than $4.3 million in port security grants from the Department of Homeland Security.
