September 10, 2004—Aegis Assessments, Inc. announced that its New York-based distributor, JAD Corporation of America, is working with Cushman & Wakefield to install the Aegis SafetyNet Wireless Life Safety System (WLSS) in a high-profile building in New York City to be used as a showcase for the WLSS.

The SafetyNet Wireless Life Safety System provides facility managers with a reliable emergency management system that includes broadband video, audio, and other data from life safety devices that can be shared with public safety agencies. The WLSS was previously showcased at the Associated Builders and Owners of Greater New York, Inc. (ABO) Trade Show in June 2004.

The fire and life safety industry is a $20 to $25 billion global industry that supplies both public and private consumers. In the last 20 years the life safety market has experienced steady growth and has almost doubled in each decade. The increased emphasis on enforcement of safety regulations and building and fire codes, coupled with the development of new technologies that allow the integration of life safety systems with security systems, is expected to fuel continued growth in the industry. Systems integration was introduced over two decades ago as the key to the “smart building.”

Development of new wireless life safety systems will help realize the potential for a fully intelligent building that combines life safety, security and other building systems in a single integrated system.
