December 10, 2003—A 50-ton hour (175 kW) ice energy storage product and a CO2 compressor for light refrigeration and heat pumps are among winners of the second annual AHR Expo Innovation Awards. The products were selected from 107 entries by a panel of ASHRAE members selected for their knowledge of the industry and its products. The competition is conducted each year by ASHRAE Journal and sponsored by ASHRAE, the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (IEC) and International Exposition Company (IEC). The companies will be featured in the January 2004 edition of ASHRAE Journal. They also will be honored at a special reception at the 2004 AHR Expo on Jan. 26-28 in Anaheim, Calif., and receive special recognition throughout the show.
The products were entered in one of eight categories: heating, cooling, refrigeration, ventilation, indoor air quality, energy management, tools & instruments, and software. The products were judged for innovation, application, value to user, and market impact. The 2004 winners are:Heating: Rheem Manufacturing Co., Air Conditioning Division, Rheem & Ruud 90-Plus Gas Furnace;
- Cooling: York UPG, York SunLine MagnaDry single-package air-conditioning and heating unit;
- Refrigeration: Danfoss, CO2 Compressor for light commercial refrigeration and heat pumps;
- Ventilation: ebm-papst, EC-GIANT brushless fractional horsepower motors;
- Indoor Air Quality: Lindab, SPIRO+AgION anti-microbial duct coating;
- Energy Management: Ice Energy, IceBear-50 distributed energy storage product;
- Tools and Instruments: Vulcain Alarm, 301 IRF infrared refrigerant monitor; and,
- Software: Wrightsoft, Right-Suite Residential HVAC Design Software.
