AIA Florida’s Fight Against Proposed CE Rule

Following Florida’s proposed rules that would affect the continuing education monitoring and compliance, AIA Florida (http://www.aiafla.org) has requested a formal hearing regarding the recently proposed rules relating to continuing education monitoring and compliance (Proposed Rule #61.6015). This rule is designed to implement statutory provisions regarding the mandatory monitoring of continuing education compliance. (See FMLink item titled Florida Changes Continuing Education Rules for Architects for details on the proposed rule.) AIA National and AIA Florida issued a call for action, seeking support from architects nationwide.

The AIA aggressive strategy worked, because the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) (http://www.state.fl.us/dbpr/index.shtml) has responded with a letter to all Florida architects asking for “patience as the department works with providers and licensees through this process.” According to AIA, the proposed rules would place “onerous requirements on continuing education providers and potentially limit quality educational offerings.” For more information, read the Action Alert posted at www.e-architect.com/gov.
