April 1, 2009—The American Institute of Architects (AIA) recently announced both the 2009 AIA/ALA Library Building Awards and the 2009 AIA Education Honor Awards.
The AIA/ALA Library Building Awards honor eight separate projects chosen biennially by representatives from the AIA and the American Library Association (ALA) as representing the finest examples of library design by architects licensed in the U.S. Recipients will be presented their awards at the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago on July 13, 2009.
The 2009 recipients are:

- C.V. Starr East Asian Library, University of California Berkeley; Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects;
- Chongqing Library, Chongqing, China; Perkins Eastman;

- NYPL Francis Martin Library, Bronx, NY; 1100 Architect, P.C.;
- Gentry Public Library, Gentry, AR; Marlon Blackwell Architect;
- Minneapolis Central Library, Minneapolis, MN; Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects; and
- Palo Verde Library/Maryvale Community Center, Phoenix, AZ; Gould Evans Associates + Wendell Burnette Architects.
The 2009 AIA Education Honor Awards highlight excellence in collegiate course development and architectural teaching. The jury looked for evidence of exceptional and innovative courses that dealt with broad issues, particularly in cross-disciplinary collaboration and/or within the broader community, contributed to the advancement of architecture education, had the potential to benefit and/or change practice, and promoted models of excellence that could be appropriated by other educators. The awards will be presented during the 2009 Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) annual meeting in Portland, Oregon on March 27, 2009. The 2009 recipients are:
