June 6, 2005— AIHA, the American Industrial Hygiene Association, has published a new guideline that offers best practices in the development of personal protective equipment for small business owners, the association says. It is now available from AIHA.
According to AIHA, the guideline offers the best management practices currently being used in the field of occupational and environmental health and safety. It discusses the fundamentals of PPE programs for small business owners, and provides direction when selecting protective clothing and equipment to safeguard employees from physical and chemical hazards encountered in various occupational settings.
The AIHA Protective Clothing and Equipment Committee created the new publication, Guideline for the Development of Personal Protective Equipment Programs for Small Business Owners. The committee said it recognized there are many small employers who may not have the resources available to independently develop PPE programs for their workers. As a result, it said the guideline is intended to help prevent the exposure of employees to potentially harmful substances.
The guideline can be ordered through the AIHA Web site.
