December 26, 2005—A new distance learning course from the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) is now available on DVD. “Moisture Control, Mold, and the Science Within the Building Envelope,” taught by Michael Geyer, PE, CIH, CSP, provides content that is essential for any professional assessing buildings for molds and indoor air quality, says AIHA.
Participants completing the course will be able to assess a building envelope and list its functional components, assemblies, and systems; identify weaknesses in suspect envelope assemblies; differentiate moisture sources and prepare corrective actions; recognize controllable sources of moisture and design control strategies; ealize building material strengths and weaknesses and choose appropriately; and comment on building designs to minimize moisture risks in new construction .
Geyer, of KERNTEC Industries, Inc., has 20 years of professional experience in environmental engineering preceded by 15 years of construction work, says AIHA. He has built hundreds of residential homes, commercial buildings, and special-use structures.
In this new DVD, building materials and methods, engineering systems, computer modeling, and wall assemblies contributing to or resisting moisture are discussed and illustrated via photographs and renderings of actual buildings, building systems, and architectural elements.
Founded in 1939, the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) is the premier association of occupational and environmental health and safety professionals. The six-hour, ten-minute DVD, which includes a final exam and a course evaluation, is $250 for AIHA members and $375 for nonmembers. Purchase it online.
