Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute offers revised performance standards online

March 31, 2003—ARI Standard 470-2002, “Desuperheater/Water Heaters,” and ARI Standard 480-2001, “Remote Type Refrigerant-Cooled Liquid Coolers,” have been revised and are available for free download from the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) as part of ARIs online service that now features free standards.

ARI standards establish rating criteria and procedures for measuring and certifying product performance. In this way, products are rated on a uniform basis so that buyers and users can properly make selections for specific applications.

Standard 470-2002 established for desuperheater/water heaters: definitions, test requirements, rating requirements, minimum data requirements for published ratings, marking and nameplate data, and conformance conditions. This standard applies to desuperheater/water heaters supplied as separate components and using single component and azeotropic refrigerants only.

ARI Standard 480-2001 establishes for remote type refrigerant-cooled liquid coolers: definitions, test requirements, rating requirements, minimum efficiency requirements for published ratings, marking and nameplate data, and conformance conditions. This standard applies to remote type refrigerant-cooled liquid coolers of the shell-and-tube, shell-and-U-tube, shell-and-coil and tube-in-tube types using single component and azeotropic refrigerants only.
