March 20, 2002—A recent meeting of the International Council of Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Manufacturers Associations (ICARMA), held January 15, during the 2002 AHR Expo in Atlantic City initiated a global industry strategy to address multilateral and unilateral attempts to regulate or phase-out HFC refrigerants.
Council members provided briefings covering their regions industry and government activity regarding ozone depletion and climate change, and heard an update on the status of the Global Refrigerants Environmental Evaluation Network (GREEN) Program, which is administered through ICARMA.
As a result of the HFC strategy discussion, council members endorsed several measures to increase promotion of responsible HFC use, including: Coordination between ICARMA, the European Partnership for Energy and the Environment (EPEE), and the Alliance for Responsible Atmospheric Policy; expanded HFC coverage on the ICARMA website; and updated ICARMA policy statements for global distribution.
Action items from the working group meeting will form the basis for discussion during the next ICARMA Annual Meeting scheduled for November 15, 2002, in Palm Springs, California. ARI
