January 24, 2003—Alandale, an UK construction management company, will operate the waste management tool SMARTStart on all of its projects from early this year. SMARTStart, developed by the UKs Building Research Establishment, monitors waste leaving the construction site and feeds the information into a database, which automatically generates graphs showing the performance of individual sites on a company-wide basis.
“Effective waste monitoring and management can only benefit the construction industry as a whole,” says MacLennan, “and we believe that more and more main contractors in the industry are going to require the use of tools such as SMARTStart in order to improve waste management”.
Since it started trading in 1996, Alandale Logistics has been involved with a number of high profile contracts including the Royal Opera House, the British Museum, Glaxo SmithKlines new Headquarters in Brentford, the Tate Galleries (both north and south bank), Albion Riverside – Battersea, and Tower Place. Alandale first worked with BRE on waste monitoring and management on the Chiswick Park Development.
