Alaska chapter of ASLA announces high school scholarship

December 30, 2005—The Alaska Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) has announced a scholarship to assist Alaskan students interested in the study of landscape architecture.

The scholarship is intended for students studying towards a bachelor’s degree of landscape architecture as their first post-secondary degree. The goal of this scholarship is to promote growth of the landscape architecture profession in the north. The Chapter has set a minimum award goal of $1,000 annually. Funds for the scholarship have been raised by chapter members holding garden design workshops in Anchorage.

Application deadline for the scholarship is February 28, 2006. Announcement of award recipient(s) will be in April 2006, and award of the scholarship in September 2006. For more information on the scholarship requirements and application please contact ASLA at scholarship@landdesignnorth.com or contact your local high school guidance office.

The Alaska Chapter of ASLA is comprised of 42 landscape architecture professionals working and residing in the state. The chapter has members in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau Wasilla, and northern Canada working for private firms and government agencies. The Chapter holds a biannual Garden Design workshop in spring to assist private homeowners in residential design and plant selection for their home. Funds raised at these workshops are funding this scholarship.

Founded in 1899, ASLA is the national professional association for landscape architects, representing more than 16,200 members. For more information, visit the Web site.
