Alerton releases low-cost, flexible BACnet router

August 7, 2002—Alerton Technologies Inc. recently released the BACtalk Router-200, a BACnet-compliant router for building automation systems. The Router-200 supports BACnet Ethernet, MS/TP, PTP, and BACnet/IP. The low-cost router provides a powerful solution to facility managers seeking seamless integration of building automation system networks with various devices and functions.

According to Kevin Caskey, Alerton’s director of sales and marketing, “If you have an IP network—and almost all buildings do—you can add the Router-200 to a subnet and essentially IP-enable all the BACnet devices on it, even if they don’t ‘speak’ BACnet/IP. Even more powerful is the roaming system access the Router-200 enables. Anywhere you have a PC connected to the WAN, running our operator workstation software—or any software that’s BACnet/IP capable, for that matter—you can query or command system data.”

Alerton designed the router so that operators can configure network parameters with a single terminal emulation program, such as HyperTerminal, running on any PC. The configuration PC connects to the Router-200 over null modem cable.
