Allsteel is the first office furniture manufacturer in North America to offer modular fiber optic cabling as part of its standard systems offering. Working closely with AMP NETCONNECT, a Tyco Electronics unit of Tyco International Ltd., Allsteel will catalog “plug and play” fiber optic cables as an option with its panel systems.
By combining their expertise, Allsteel and AMP NETCONNECT offer customers a simplified, flexible and technology-ready voice and data solution that can be fully integrated into panel-based systems furniture. Fiber optic cabling can support maximum bandwidth, reliability, and data transmission distances.
Unlike traditional “home run” cabling, the fiber optic cabling allows multiple workstations to feed off a single consolidation point, or “hub,” that is integrated into the furniture system. Thus, multiple workstations can be connected to a single hub that serves as a juncture point between the telecommunications closet and the desktop. Cabling from the hub to the desktop ships to the site pre-terminated in 10-, 30-, and 50-foot lengths, making it highly convenient to move, add or reconfigure multiple workstations within a cluster of up to 24 workstations.
