Americans support alternative energy methods, says Gallup Poll

December 5, 2001—The Gallup News Service recently conducted a poll to gauge Americans’ feeling on alternative energy. The poll found widespread support for investment in the nation’s energy infrastructure, including the construction of new power generation plants and development of alternative energy sources, such as wind and solar power.

Support for development of alternative energy sources—including solar, wind, and fuel cell technology—was 91 percent among respondents. Support for the development of nuclear power was 42 percent.

The survey was based on telephone interviews with a randomly selected national sample of 512 adults, 18 years and older.
