To meet industry demand for ST-Style and SC Connectorized assemblies and connectors, AMP Netconnect is expanding production of its polymer ferrule fiber optic connectors and connectorized cable assembly product line that it says are now equal in performance to ceramic ferrules. A complete line of epoxy polymer ferrule connector kits and connectorized cable assemblies are readily available for multimode applications using either ST-Style or SC connectors. The company says that material and manufacturing improvements in the last five years have enabled polymer ferrule connectors to achieve performance parity with ceramic ferrules. It adds that the polymer ferrule connectors exceed all TIA/EIA-568-B.3 specifications, and that extensive testing by Tyco Electronics shows that they are equal in performance to ceramic not only for insertion loss but also for all parameters including temperature cycling, durability, and repeatability. Further, the polymer ferrule connectors and assemblies can intermate with both polymer and ceramic connectors.
