Anthony Forest Products wins safety and health award from OSHA

June 8, 2007—The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently presented Anthony Forest Products’ Washington, GA, laminating plant with OSHA’s Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) award. SHARP recognizes small business employers who operate an exemplary safety and health management system.

With this award, Anthony Forest Products, founded in 1916 and headquartered in El Dorado, Ark., has obtained SHARP status at all six of its facilities, including sawmills in Atlanta, TX, and Urbana, AK; chip mills in Plain Dealing, LA, and Troup, TX; and another laminating plant in El Dorado.

Anthony Forest Products reportedly saved more than $1 million from 2001-2006 by working with OSHA’s On-Site Consultation Program. The program is a free consultation service largely funded by OSHA where employers can find out about potential hazards at their worksites, improve their occupational safety and health management systems, and even qualify for a one-year exemption from routine OSHA inspections.

Anthony’s Georgia laminating plant has been in production since 1993. Since working with OSHA’s On-site Consultation Program, the plant has logged more than 630,000 work hours with no lost time due to injuries. The facility’s Days Away, Restricted and/or Transferred case rate (DART) was 2.34 in 1998, and is now 0.0, adds OSHA.
