February 4, 2002—American Power Conversion (APC) has expanded its SurgeArrest Panelmount Surge Protection Device (TVSS) offering to include remote, Web-based monitoring and e-mail event notification capabilities with the new Panelmount Environmental Monitoring Unit (PEMU). The PEMU is installed next to APC’s industrial TVSS products and monitors contact closures within the unit, allowing facility managers and network administrators to monitor the status of their APC TVSS products from anywhere in the world via a Web, Telnet, or SNMP interface. The PEMU also provides e-mail notification for up to four e-mail addresses in the event of a TVSS failure. Upon such an event, a dry contact closure within the TVSS unit triggers the PEMU to send alarm notifications via e-mail or SNMP.
The PEMU is a stand-alone unit, has its own IP address, and connects to any existing computer network via 10BaseT. Security is assured through MD5 Authentication and the PEMU’s dual user-access levels.
The PEMU is available in North America and Latin America in for an estimated resale price of $280. An optional Temperature and Humidity Probe is available for $59. The probe plugs into the PEMU and reports environmental conditions where the PEMU is installed. For more information, contact APC at 800/877-4080.
