February 14, 2007—APPA, the association for higher education facilities executives, has released a major report showing a strong relationship between student satisfaction, choice of institution, and the condition of facilities.
In what APPA calls the most comprehensive study to date, the authors collected data from more than 16,000 college students from 46 institutions in the US and Canada.
The report significantly updates a study done in the 1980s by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, which found that 62% of students surveyed indicated that the factor that most influenced them during their campus visit was the appearance of a college’s grounds and buildings.
“The Impact of Facilities on the Recruitment and Retention of Students: Final Report” is available for sale as a downloadable PDF file in the General Administration & Management section of the APPA Bookstore.
