Automated Power Exchange (APX) Inc., a provider of market services for the electric power industry, and Sterling Planet Inc., a provider of green energy, have formed a wholesale and retail market alliance to give consumers more choice over the percentage of power that comes from renewable sources.
Sterling Planet, which pays renewable power generators premium fees through the wholesale APX Green Power Markets, offers consumers the choice of power produced by wind, solar, geothermal, and other types of renewable generation—without changing their relationship with their local utility.
Sterling Planet satisfies the green energy order by purchasing green tickets from renewable generators via the APX Green Power Markets. Each ticket represents the premium value of one megawatt-hour of certified renewable power generation, above the price of the commodity energy delivered into the transmission grid. Consumers pay Sterling Planet a flat monthly fee and continue to pay their utility for their regular electric service.
