Architects go global with online services as UIA contracts with AECdirect A 7-year agreement to provide online services to architects worldwide was signed in October by the International Union of Architects (UIA) and AECdirect, the substantially owned Internet subsidiary of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The agreement was signed at the UIA executive committee meeting in Moscow. UIA president Vassilis Sgoutas, Hon.FAIA, remarked that anyone with a computer and access to the Web can tap into AECdirect’s URL. The agreement also calls for AECdirect to develop country-specific information for those national sections of UIA that sign on. Recipients will log on in their own language. The agreement also calls for a portion of funds generated to help emerging nations and their architects share in the global economy.
