February 17, 2006—After five years’ testing and analysis, Armstrong Flooring announces the launch of VapArrest Professional Moisture Retardant System. VapArrest can reduce vapor transmission from leveling compounds and concrete subfloors up to 75% with vapor transmissions as high as 12 lb/1000sq.ft/24hr. in a single coat, making it the most effective single coat system available, says Armstrong Flooring.
Moisture from the environment can not only lead to mold and mildew later on, explains Armstrong, but in extreme cases can prevent the flooring adhesive from bonding to the subfloor properly, creating hollow spots and buckling.
VapArrest is easily applied with a roller, spreading 270 sq.ft/gal., and has a cure time of 12-16 hours. No special subfloor preparation is necessary but it can be used over cementitious leveling compounds if necessary. Armstrong recommends VapArrest when installing Bruce, Armstrong Hardwood Flooring by Hartco, and Robbins engineered hardwood flooring, and is specifically formulated to work with Bruce Equalizer, Hartco57, and Robbins Fusionlock urethane adhesives. When used as directed in combination with these products, VapArrest comes with a lifetime subfloor moisture protection warranty for both commercial and residential applications.
VapArrest is available in three convenient sizes: 2.2 gal. (net) mixed, 1.1 gal. (net) mixed, and 1 quart (net mixed, each with a handy film thickness gauge to ensure proper amount is applied.
