Learn how to install, operate and maintain your industrial ventilation system properly, from ACGIH

by Brianna Crandall — February 12, 2020 — The American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) has released the updated Industrial Ventilation: A Manual of Recommended Practice for Operation and Maintenance, 2nd Edition (“the O&M Manual”), one of over 25 titles featured in the ACGIH Signature Publications Series. ACGIH is a 501(c)(3) charitable scientific organization that advances occupational and environmental health and offers some 400 related publications.

The first edition of the O&M Manual, published in 2007, was designed as a companion to ACGIH’s Industrial Ventilation: A Manual of Recommended Practice for Design (“the Design Manual”) to complement its information. The Design Manual is a guide to assist practitioners in designing an industrial ventilation system to control airborne contaminants that can become health hazards in the workplace.

The second edition of the O&M Manual provides new, useful and practical knowledge as well as application-specific tools to specify, install, operate and maintain your ventilation system to deliver the desired employee protection, and why some systems fail to do so. Checklists and forms are included that will make maintaining your ventilation system easy and orderly.

A new chapter on energy has been added and includes CFD figures and a subsection regarding the new AMCA FEI (Air Movement and Control Association Fan Energy Index) energy rating system used to right-size fans and reduce power consumption in commercial and industrial air systems. A revamped section for system and hood testing and Ce is also included.

ACGIH recommends that every industrial ventilation practitioner should have this practical compendium to the Design Manual.

Industrial Ventilation: A Manual of Recommended Practice for Operation and Maintenance, 2nd Edition is available to order in a printed version or as a digital download from the ACGIH Online Store, either alone or in a two-volume set with the Design Manual.

Industrial Ventilation: A Manual of Recommended Practice for Design, 30thEdition, is also available to order singly.
