Safely disinfect surfaces with this mobile UV-C device

by Brianna Crandall — January 25, 2021 — Temporary power and lighting solutions manufacturer Ericson Manufacturing recently debuted a proven and safe workplace defense against pathogens — including the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus that causes Covid-19 — with the UV-C Perma-Kleen Cart (PKCART) system.

PKCARTs are mobile disinfecting units that address the need to combat microorganisms such as viruses, molds, mildews, bacteria and fungi. The UV light carts utilize a high-wattage ultraviolet light (UV) to disinfect potentially contaminated surfaces through a process known as ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI). During UVGI, microorganisms are inactivated when their DNA sequence is destroyed or disrupted, leaving them unable to perform vital cellular functions, explains the company.

According to Ericson, independent testing confirms that PKCARTs are a proven and safe defense against bacteria, enveloped viruses, and non-enveloped viruses, including the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, MRSA, Streptococcus Group A, E. coli, black mold and listeria. UV light supplements traditional cleaning methods, delivering unparalleled performance against harmful and potentially deadly microbial contamination.

Unlike other solutions, Ericson’s UV-C products feature advanced room-scanning technology and safety redundancies that not only protect workers from UV light exposure, but also calculate the size of the contaminated space, setting the correct dosage time for UVGI to be effective, says the company. This repeatable, consistent process is said to decrease the effects of potential human error without the use of harsh chemicals and water.

PKCARTs are an expansion of Ericson’s Perma-Kleen line, a robust set of antimicrobial plug, connector, and cordset solutions designed to continually provide long-lasting control of bacterial growth through antimicrobial additives stored throughout the product. The design is especially beneficial in industrial environments, where nicks and surface abrasions can harbor microbial contamination, notes the company.
