From office furniture to plumbing fixtures to skyscrapers, see which green projects won the Green Good Design Awards for 2020

by Brianna Crandall — June 3, 2020 — Innovative green products such as lighting, electronics, floorcoverings, faucets and plumbing fixtures and office furniture, and green buildings such as parking garages, expo centers, libraries, skyscrapers, schools and corporate headquarters were all honored with Green Good Design Awards for 2020. The winning designs were jointly announced by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.

For the 2020 special green edition, 100 product design, graphics, architecture, landscape architecture and urban planning projects from 20 nations, together with visionary leaders, were awarded Green Good Design Awards. Under the banner “Build A Better World Now,” designs for buildings and products that emphasize the most advanced “green approach” and the most sophisticated methods and technology to make the most positive impact on the environment were cited and awarded.

Founded in Chicago in 1950 by Eero Saarinen and Charles and Ray Eames, the original Good Design Awards are touted as the oldest and most established awards program for the most innovative and visionary new product design worldwide, celebrating everything from a NASA space ship to a paper clip. In 2019, over 900 new product designs and graphics from over 48 nations were recognized with the distinguished Good Design Award.

This year’s Green Good Design program received hundreds of submissions from over 35 countries. A jury selected 100 new buildings and product designs from 20 nations as a new design direction for an even greater, more heightened awareness to protect the world’s natural resources and the manufacturing and end-user’s growing concerns for a healthy ecology and human environment. Conserve, reuse, retrofit, and recycle are prominent themes running across each awarded new product and building design.

More impressive is the list of visionary companies and industrial design firms as well as leading international architecture and landscape architecture offices represented, say the organizers.
