ASHRAE approves HVAC package equipment servicing research

April 23, 20—Properly servicing HVAC package equipment could result in annual savings of $450 million, if energy efficiency improved by 10 percent, reports the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

“Increased reliability also would improve productivity in conditioned spaces, such as higher sales in retail stores, higher production yields in manufacturing and higher productivity in offices,” says ASHRAE.

Research to quantify the benefits of proper service in packaged equipment by assessing its performance and documenting how that performance improves when the equipment is properly serviced has been approved by (ASHRAE).

Packaged equipment is the most common source of HVAC in small- and medium-sized commercial buildings. Rooftop and other unitary air-conditioning equipment consumes 62 percent of total energy consumed for cooling building stock of commercial buildings, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.
