ASHRAE guide provides O&M tips for ground source heat pumps

August 23, 2002—The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) recently published Commissioning, Preventive Maintenance, and Troubleshooting Guide for Commercial Ground-Source Heat Pumps, to assist in the proper operation of these systems.

As GSHP systems enter service, scattered problems have surfaced in operating buildings, according to Doug Cane of Caneta Research Inc., a co-author of the guide.

The guide includes commissioning requirements for GSHP systems in the design and program, construction and acceptance phases of a commercial project.

In the area of preventive maintenance, the guide presents maintenance program actions and frequency for the major GSHP components.

It also includes troubleshooting procedures for the four major subsystems making up GSHP systems.

Commissioning, Preventive Maintenance, and Troubleshooting Guide for Commercial Ground-Source Heat Pumps is $69 ($55, ASHRAE members).
