February 20, 2006—Newly published by ASHRAE, a textbook serving also as a reference manual allows engineers to build on their knowledge of HVAC&R procedures and methods. Principles of Heating, Ventilating and Air-Conditioning builds on much of the basic information in the ASHRAE 2005 Handbook, Fundamentals, including many significant changes. It serves, points out the professional organization, as a good source for many of the procedures or methods used in HVAC&R design.
Principles of HVAC elaborates on the use of technical guidance in the Fundamentals Handbook, such as the new radiant time series (RTS) methodology, which includes enhanced treatment of RTS procedures for non-residential cooling and heating loads; a new chapter on residential cooling and heating loads; inclusion of the new ventilation air procedure from ASHRAE 62.1-2044; and changes in the format and quantity of design weather conditions around the world.
Co-authors are Harry Sauer Jr., Ph.D., PE, and William Coad.
The book includes a CD that contains a spreadsheet for the RTS method and the expanded weather data. The textbook can be used as an undergraduate or graduate level textbook or for self-instruction and as a reference for those who would like reinforcement of their understanding of HVAC&R. Also available is Principles of HVAC Solutions Manual, which contains solutions to most of the problems in the principles book.
Cost of Principles of HVAC is $84 ($67, ASHRAE members); cost of the solutions manual is $57 ($46, ASHRAE members).
