August 6, 2003—Requirements for separating smoking and nonsmoking spaces are provided in an addendum to the ASHRAE ventilation standard. ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62-2001, Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality, sets minimum ventilation rates and other requirements for commercial and institutional buildings.
Addendum 62g contains requirements for separating smoking and nonsmoking spaces to maintain the status of nonsmoking spaces. The addendum exempts some building types from selected requirements, based on concerns that the requirements are unworkable in these situations, according to committee chair David Butler, P.E.

Addendum 62h describes the requirements of the indoor air quality (IAQ) procedure in mandatory and enforceable language and is intended to replace section 6.2 in the current standard. The IAQ procedure is a performance-based design approach in which a building and its ventilation system are designed to limit concentration of contaminants at certain levels.
Addendum x revises the humidity control requirements contained in Section 5.10, as well as clarifies the standard’s existing recommendations and requirements to ensure that the building envelope does not contribute to indoor air quality problems, according to Butler.
Addendum 62ae adds definitions of the terms cognizant authority and industrial space as well as updates and corrects a number of other small items in the standard.
