September 3, 2007—ASIS International has released the draft of its first security standard that provides guidance on developing risk management plans for natural disasters, technology and environmental accidents, terrorism and crime.
The draft of the All Hazards Risk Management Systems Best Practices Standard was developed to help organizations develop policies to identify potential hazards and threats, conduct training programs in case of emergencies, and establish metrics for measuring and demonstrating success, says the organization.
In 2001, ASIS began creating security guidelines for the physical security industry but officials said more of the organization’s input was needed because other groups such as the National Fire Protection Agency were developing guidelines as well.
In response to this, ASIS announced its intention to develop standards in late May.
