ASIS guidebook helps schools protect against terrorist attacks

October 19, 2003—ASIS International has recently published a guidebook designed to provide school administrators and teachers with the security framework and necessary checklists to ensure that their facilities and students are properly protected against a terrorist attack—be it biological, chemical, radiological, or nuclear. Protecting Schools and Universities from Terrorism, by Lt. Col. Jeffrey A. Adams (U.S. Army, Ret.) and Dr. Joshua Sinai, goes beyond the type of attacks mentioned above.

It addresses more conventional tactics used by terrorists, such as detonating explosives and even the indiscriminate shooting of students. The most important message being this: Preparation for defending against a terrorist attack can help prevent one.

Additionally, if the unthinkable should occur, the book provides information that will help administrators effectively manage the crisis and the ramifications of an attack.

Available for $30 to ASIS members and $39 for non-members, this book may be ordered from ASIS Member Services by calling 703/519-6200 and requesting book number 1546, or online.
