October 25, 2004—Encouraging research in occupational safety to prevent workplace injuries, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Foundation recently announced the 2005 Liberty Mutual Safety Research Fellowship Program. This program provides funding for two fellows to conduct workplace safety research this summer at the Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety in Hopkinton, MA.
The fellowship program promotes safety research, expands upon current safety practices, and creates the groundwork for fellows to pursue safety research. Two fellows will spend four to six weeks at the Institute, having access to current research projects, equipment and research scientists onsite. Fellows will receive a stipend from the ASSE Foundation to cover research expenses and they will write an article for an ASSE publication; Professional Safety or the ASSE Foundation’s Advocate .
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and possess a Ph.D. degree or be working towards a master’s or Ph.D. degree. ASSE members and applicants enrolled or holding appointments in an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited safety program will be given special consideration. Applications are due March 1, 2005 and the fellowship recipients will be announced April 1, 2005.
Applications and guidelines for the fellowships are available online.
