ASSE updates publication addressing workplace noise control

August 6, 2003—To help identify and reduce noise in the workplace, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) recently published a new, Third Edition of “Noise Control.”

The book examines noise control principles and measures, in addition to providing an overview of noise and its effects on health. It identifies frequently occurring types of noise in the workplace, and provides ways to reduce or eliminate noise. The book contains illustrations of practical measures to isolate high frequency noise, maximize sound absorption, and lower sound produced from many sources, including gears, ducts, pipes and valves.

This new edition also includes a new chapter on Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) noise control requirements that defines workers’ rights to hearing protection, legal noise limits and requirements of audiometric testing programs. Included in the appendices are the OSHA Noise Standard 29 CFR 1910.95 “Occupational Noise Exposure,” and Part 1904, “OSHA Recordkeeping Related to Hearing Loss Cases.”

“Noise Control,” order number 4403, is $24.95 for ASSE members, $29.95 for AIHA and ACHMM members, and $34.50 for non-members. To order the book, contact ASSE Customer Service at 847/699-2929 or visit ASSE.
