Atkins introduces guide for designing and building schools

August 21, 2006—Multi-disciplinary consultancy Atkins has launched a new guide for those involved in the design and construction of schools.

The guide focuses on the principles and best practice of incorporating sustainable water management into school design.

It has been produced on behalf of the Construction Industry Research and Information Association (CIRIA), primarily for designers and contractors involved in building and refurbishing schools as well as local authorities, head teachers and school governors.

The guide includes best practice case studies for integrating sustainable water management into school design and guidance on water-efficient technologies, water conservation initiatives and sustainable drainage systems.

There is also a demonstration of the business case for implementing a sustainable water management system.

The guide is jointly funded by the Environment Agency, Defra and the Department for Education and Skills.

The guide can be downloaded from the CIRIA Web site.
