In response to sub-contracting activities in New South Wales, the Australian Building Services Association (ABSA) national executive has issued a statement to remind its members about current policy concerning sub-contracting:
- ABSA does not support sub-contracting, licensing, or similar arrangements that have been designed to circumvent normal legal requirements in relation to wages, taxes, superannuation entitlements, etc.
- ABSA does support properly designed arrangements that fully comply with normal legal entitlements.
According to one industry executive, the existing industry margins are so low that if all legal requirements are met, there is just not enough money for both a primary contractor and a sub-contractor to be paid.
