AutoMotion installs first fully automated parking garage in NYC

January 26, 2007—AutoMotion Parking Systems has introduced the first fully automated parking garage system in New York City providing, it says, the easiest, fastest, and safest way to park in just three simple steps: park, swipe, leave. The installation is at a recently completed luxury condominium open to the public as well as residents.

Once a customer drives inside the garage’s entry/exit room and locks the car, the customer swipes a card to activate the system and leaves. The vehicle remains motionless, transported on a pallet automatically to its storage bay. When returning, the customer swipes the card and the car is returned back to the entry/exit point. The customer then starts the car and drives away. Cars are retrieved in less than 2.5 minutes with, the company claims, no risk of dents, scratches, or dings to the car. AutoMotion also eliminates damage to the car’s interior or theft of personal goods left inside the car.

Attendants are not required on site. Every parking cardholder is given an emergency telephone number to summon expert assistance.

AutoMotion says the system can double or even triple the capacity of a garage.

Technology for the AutoMotion Parking System was developed by the German industrial manufacturer Stolzer Parkhaus, which has successfully built 28 automated facilities operating in 11 countries worldwide. MJS Garage Management will operate the first system in the US.
