Award-winning Honeywell product allows technicians to diagnose performance of HVAC systems

January 31, 2003—The HVAC Service Assistant, produced by Honeywell Building Control Solutions, has won the 2003 Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration Exposition Innovation Award, sponsored by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers; the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute; and the International Exposition Company.

The tool can be used when commissioning a new cooling system to prove that the air conditioning system is performing properly, avoiding expensive callbacks. It can also be used when servicing equipment to diagnose problems, increase energy savings, reduce unexpected or emergency repairs, and help commercial building owners plan capital expenditures based on life expectancy of the equipment.

Honeywell describes the new technology “as dramatic as the move calculators to a personal computer and from automobile carburetors to fuel injection.” Currently, technicians use a manual checklist to diagnose problems and determine system performance.
