Backup power modules from Maxwell Technologies win Product of the Year award from Design News

March 30, 2005—POWERCACHE ultracapacitor-based backup power modules by Maxwell Technologies, Inc. have been voted by the readers of Design News Magazine as one of the publication’s 2004 “Product of the Year” award winners.

The modules are aimed at applications that require a short-term bridge for long-term backup systems that take a while to ramp up. They provide quicker response and longer lifetimes than lead acid batteries without significant differences in lifetime expenses, says the magazine.

Though ultracapacitors have higher initial costs than lead acid batteries, their long lifetimes reduce replacement costs for batteries. They often last 10 years, compared to three to four years for lead acid batteries, according to the magazine.
