Bank of America announced on April 25, 2001, that it will darken more than 200 pylon signs at Northwest banking centers over the coming weeks in order to save energy. Pylon signs are those placed on poles with interior lighted logo signage. No lighting that contributes to customer or associate security will be affected by this effort.
With this move, Bank of America is targeting annual energy savings of approximately 300,000 kilowatt hours—equal to the annual energy usage of 200 employee offices. Program implementation is expected to take from three to five weeks. The metropolitan areas of Seattle, Portland and Spokane will be the first focus.
