Bechtel funds new construction safety scholarship with ASSE

February 7, 2003—The engineering and construction firm, Bechtel, has donated $10,000 to the American Society of Safety Engineers Foundation (ASSEF), establishing a new college scholarship for occupational safety and health students. The new Bechtel Foundation Scholarship Program for Safety and Health will award a $3,000 scholarship each year to an undergraduate pursuing a career in construction safety or a related occupational safety and health field.

The first Bechtel Foundation Scholarship for Safety and Health will be offered to students this fall and awarded summer 2004 during ASSE’s annual conference in Las Vegas, NV. Applicants must be full-time students pursing a B.S. in Occupational Safety and Health with an emphasis on construction safety or a related field. Applicants must be student members of ASSE, have a GPA of 3.2 out of a 4.0 system, have a good academic standing, and be recommended by a safety faculty member.

Applications and guidelines for the scholarships will be available September 1, 2003 online.
