September 15, 2003—MicroMain XM, a computerized maintenance management system produced by MicroMain of Austin, Texas, has been selected to track the preventive and predictive maintenance of equipment at the new corporate headquarters of Best Buy Co., Inc. in Minnesota.
Best Buy is also using add-on software modules msATRAK for asset tracking and msMOBILE for PDA-based work orders and inspections.
The facility currently has more than twenty-five hundred pieces of equipment in its MicroMain XM database, and anticipates adding another five hundred by the end of the year.
When Best Buy began inventorying its equipment at the new corporate campus, it used msATRAK software to record the information, link it to a barcode, and set the correct parent-child asset relationship, which means one equipment unit is a component or subset of a larger equipment unit. After barcoding the assets, the company was able to use msMOBILE software to download the work orders directly to the engineers’ handheld computers.
