BIFM and IFMA UK join forces

October 1, 2004—The British Institute of Facilities Management and the UK Chapter of the International Facility Management Association have reached an agreement that will see IFMA UK brought within the BIFM structure.

The IFMA UK Chapter will continue to represent those facilities management professionals with a particular interest in the international dimension of facilities management.

The current members of the IFMA UK Chapter will continue to benefit from association with both organizations.

The decision has been taken after much consultation and following a series of meetings between the two organizations since the announcement of the Partners in FM Excellence agreement with IFMA last March.

“The majority of the membership of IFMA UK are already members of BIFM it was therefore a logical progression following the partners agreement with IFMA that we pooled our resources and efforts to take facilities management forward together. It now means that facilities management will have a single and united professional voice in the UK which I believe will only strengthen our ability to meet our stated objectives to promote FM as a profession across all sectors of industry, commerce and government within the UK and farther afield,” said BIFMs outgoing Chairman Stan Mitchell.

The agreement is subject to due diligence and should be formalized within a month.
