BIFM celebrates FM excellence

October 30, 2006—Achievements in facilities management in the UK were celebrated at the 6th annual BIFM International Investors in FM Excellence Awards on October 16. The British Institute of Facilities Management event drew 1,200 FM professionals.

The presentations began with the “New Build Award,” sponsored by Workplace Management, presented to The National Trust for their headquarters project, Heelis. The judges were looking at the extent of FM integration throughout the whole process of planning, designing, building, and operating a new facility. The National Trust also won the award for “Sustainability,” sponsored by Interserve FM.

  • Best Practice in a New Build Project: The National Trust for their headquarters project, Heelis;

  • Impact on Organization and Workplace: Microsoft for “children and staff coexisting in harmony;”

  • Best Practice in a Fit-Out Project: London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games; Siemens Facility Management for Siemens Power Generation in Heaton;

  • Best Practice in a PFI/PPP Project: Robertson Facilities Management for Chester Le Street Community Hospital;

  • Best Article in FM Journalism: David Arminas for his article “The Time for Action,” published in FM World magazine.

  • Innovation: Centrica Group Property for their project “Intelligent Buildings that can really talk;”

  • Sustainability: The National Trust for their headquarters project, Heelis;

  • Technology: Macro and Cirrus Software in Partnership for the FM Horizon Helpdesk;

  • Customer Service: Royal & Sun Alliance and TNT Managed Services for their mail and distribution services;

  • Student of the Year: Judi Hall for best performance in the BIFM examination Part I and Part II during the last year;

  • Communications & Marketing: MITIE Group plc for “Communicating our changes;” and

  • Facilities Manager of the Year: Ian Broadbent, Group Facilities Manager with Hallmark Cards.
